Hi! I’m Megan Overman, your write-in candidate for State Representative in OH-37. Here is a bit about me.

I was born and raised in Piqua, Ohio. After high school, I went to Ohio University (Go Bobcats!) and graduated with bachelor’s degrees in English and Sociology. A few years, a marriage, and one child later, I earned a master’s degree in English from Wright State University (Go Raiders!). After a bit of time teaching, I found my true home in the educational publishing industry as a writer and editor for K-12 curriculum materials and textbooks. For the past decade, I have been honored to craft the tools children nationwide use to learn about their world.

My family and I moved to Centerville in 2015. During my time here, I’ve skated for Gem City Roller Derby, built community with fellow Dayton writers during NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), and welcomed my youngest child—who just started school this year.

My children are central to my candidacy, just as they are central to my life. Every day, I wave my oldest off on the bus and drive my youngest to school. Every day, I hope they will be safe, that they will learn and grow in healthy ways, and that they will grow up in a place that cares about their wellbeing.

Prior to this campaign, I had considered running for office—but I always figured there would be time for that when the children were older. Then, in late July I realized that with the extreme legislation sailing through the Ohio Legislature, and the unopposed extremist running in my district, “later” is not going to cut it. My blog talks more about my specific journey to this moment, but suffice to say: I am running because there is no one else on the ballot who will fight for the Ohio my children and their peers deserve. I am here to give voters a choice
